Dr. Lynette Cruz and Dr. Keanu Sai discuss his doctoral research on the occupation of Hawai‘i and how to ultimately bring the occupation to an end. Also discussed was Dr. Sai’s recent letter to Assistant Secretary of Insular Affairs at the Department of the Interior, Esther Kia‘aina, regarding evidence that Hawai‘i’s sovereignty was lost in 1893.

Outstanding! Mahalo Dr. Keanu Sai.
Mahalo nui e Dr. Keanu Sai for this insightful encounter with Dr. Lynette Cruz. It is actually an epic of invaluable revelation every time we get to hear from you. We were privileged by your visit to Las Vegas, to share with us your ‘ike on our Hawaiian Kingdom Restoration.
To right the wrong… isn’t this what it’s all about… it’s time… let’s end this occupation now… mahalo to mauna kea and mauna loa… protecting us from the latest storm… bsafe… alohakeakua
Mahalo for speaking about the different aspects such as the psychological. That aspect is so profound, diverse for each of us yet binding and rarely examined in a direct manner. Instead, I think it is spoken of in a way that leaves the individual exposed; feeling vulnerable and alone. Worse, I believe that many Kanaka have targeted one another for their different levels of understanding, or revelation for so long; for their differing beliefs (like the insensitive and hurtful remarks of Kia’aina and Apo, etc.). While we are constantly fed a steady diet of “aloha” and “local fiber”, we once again are the last to receive it from others and perhaps most painfully, from other Kanaka. Whether we identify it, understand it, etc., or not, we will be effected by it.
Since 1999, this journey has been cathartic for me. Mahalo Nui! The future is bright!
